Folks,
I was wondering if anyone with previous or current knowledge of the grass track - Highland Games scene could help me out with some advice?!
Fiona and I are planning on doing some track racing this coming year (started with a day at Manchester the other week and we are doing the UK Emergency Services Champs at Newport at the end of January).
We will probably try to get down to Dundee for their Tuesday evening track league but also we are going to do some of the Highland Games grasstrack stuff, because it looks like good fun.
The query is...what tyre/wheel and frame set ups do grass track riders use? I have bought some 30mm cyclocross tyres, which don't work with my Fuji Track front forks - so I realise I will have to get different forks - no major problem.
I was wondering if people use modern track frames with cyclocross tyres for grasstrack and then just change the wheels and tyres for the velodrome - that's what we would like to be able to do, so is it viable?
Any advice (within reason!) would be greatly appreciated as both of us quite fancy the grasstrack racing with some velodrome rides chucked in.
cheers,
Andy Duncan (Ythan)
P.S. - Ali McGill - I was wondering if you fancy a punt at the grasstrack stuff too with your recent daliance with track racing? |

Andy, I'd be up for that but I haven't a clue where to start!
Was down in Manchester a couple of weeks ago on the track again. Quite fancy a bit of track racing next season, so the grass track racing would compliment that well.
Any advice for us newbies anyone??? |

Thanks to the 'experienced' ones, I will seek out those in the know and let you know how I get on Ali. (Although I cannot seem to get membership of the Braveheart Forum at present and maybe you will have to do the needful, Ali, as you are a member).
By the way, Merry Xmas Isobel (and Norman of course) and wishing all the best for a healthy and wealthy 2009.
Same to all the Deesiders too.
cheers,
Andy D |

Ali,
that's smashing. Can you put a query on the thread about what tyres people actually use, as I have yet to find knobbly ones which fit the clearance for front or rear on my Fuji Track.
cheers,
Andy
P.S. HAPPY NEW YEAR! |

Done Andy. Keep an eye on the thread.
Happy New Year! Roads in Inverurie were too icy today, so it was a couple of hours on the turbo for me......... |
