This is a great opportunity to experience 1st class racing on local roads. The B race is on the circuit we use for Thursday night training so take advantage of those Thursday night sessions and get an entry in.

Regards
Duncan

Folks,

On Friday 3rd July I'll have something in common with Christian Prudhomme & Lance Armstrong & the rest of the pro-peleton - we'll all be worrying about the next days race. It's just under 3 weeks to the districts biggest race of the year, Scottish Power Renewables Super 6 Series Round 5 - Freelance World Road Race. I still need to enlist more helpers for the big day on Saturday 4th July. Please could let me know if you can help out. I need people for the following jobs;

1. Marshalls - in addition to the junctions there's King of the Mountain primes to be judged for A & B races so I need 4 extra bodies to help with this plus I'm still short of marshalls for a number of junctions
2. Cars + drivers - still need 2 service cars plus drivers and cars for the 1st Aid and Assistant Commissaires
3. Sign-on help - 4 cool, calm, unflappable people to run the sign-on tables
4. Homebakes - we've got the majority of the food covered but Aberdeen events are renowned for homebakes so let me know if you can provide some.

Many thanks to the folks who have already offered help. Hopefully, I won't have a totally sleepless night come 3rd July!

I'm still in need of helpers for next Saturdays' Super 6 road race.The following are what's still needed;

4 service car passengers. Exciting job opportunity, would suit mechanically minded, ability to run with a wheel in each hand and work a quick-release an advantage.
3 marshals. Choice of junctions still available. I've got timings and locations available for info.
1 KOM judge. To note 1st 3 riders up Craigievar climb at the x-roads hotel on each of 2 laps.
1 sign-on helper. Could double up as any one of the above.

If you think you could help please get in touch and I will answer any questions you have and provide more details.

All,

I'm down lead car due to sponsors car not now being available.

Is there anyone who could offer to do lead car duty? I can make it one of the lead cars for Race B which is only 40miles.

I also intend to provide a contribution towards fuel costs if that persuades anyone.

Alternatively, if you could drive for one of the commissaires that could free up someone for lead duty.

Please get in touch if you can help.

Great effort from the team on AND off the road today. In the B Race it was a sea of blue and we controlled things for much of the race. It was so much fun! Great to get two guys in the top 10, next year we'll be even better.

A big THANK YOU to Duncan for organising today's races. As many of you know, Duncan's raced most of the Super 6 Series this year, and over the past few weeks he's selflessly put his own racing on hold to put on today's fantastic event.

The fact that we can put on such a good show certainly makes me very proud to be associated with the club.

Cheers,
Ali M

Folks,

Here's brief report on todays race. Full results should be available tomorrow.

Round 5 of the Scottish Power Renewables Super 6 Road Race series took place in Aberdeen on Saturday 4th July 09. The event, starting in Westhill just outside Aberdeen, took place in blazing sunshine with little wind and temperatures reaching 24oC. As in the previous Super 6 Rounds there were 2 races out on the roads at the same.

The B race was held over 4 laps of a fast 10 mile circuit through Dunecht, Echt and Garlogie. With the course having long flat straights and only a relatively small amount of climbing it was expected to be a fast affair favouring the sprinters. Throughout the race the 60 rider bunch maintained a high pace and although there were various attempts to break clear the bunch wasn’t letting anyone get away. Promoting club, Deeside Thistle, had a number of riders active in the bunch but couldn’t manage to get a decisive break through. In the end it came down to a bunch sprint won by Graham Doig (Moray Firth CC) closely followed by Graeme Cockburn (Glasgow Nightingale) and Michael Martin (East Kilbride RC). All finishing in a time of 1:35:39.

Highest place local riders were Brian Duncan (Deeside Thistle CC) in 8th place and Ian Brown (also Deeside Thistle CC) in 10th.

The ladies competition was won by Claire Thomas (Edinburgh RC) who finished well up in the main bunch in a time of 1:35:43. 2nd woman was Sarah Gleave (Glasgow Nightingale) some 14secs back and 3rd was Fiona Duncan (Sandy Wallace Cycles) @ 12:48.

The A race was held over a challenging 65 mile course over 2 laps of the Tough, Muir of Fowlis, Kintocher, Learney circuit. An early break of 5 riders built up a lead of 2 mins. Various counter attacks failed to bridge the gap. However, when the race had hit the 10mile finishing circuit Gary Hand (Endura Racing) and Phil Brown (Velo Ecosse) jumped clear and started to close the gap. In a display of superbly strong riding Hand and Brown bridged the 2min gap and on the uphill finish Hand powered clear to claim a brilliant win in a time of 2:39:19. 2nd was Robin Wilkins (Stirling BC) (same time) and 3rd was Craig Adams (Falkirk BC) at 5 sec.

Highest place local rider was Ali Watt (Granite City Road Team) finishing in 11th place @ 2:34. A special mention must go to Discovery Junior Cycling Club for a clean sweep of the Junior competition which saw James Smith, Matthew Hamilton and Andrew Leith take the Junior 1,2,3 and all finish in the main bunch at 2:34 from the winner.

The top ten from each race is listed below.

Race A
Position Name Club Time
1 Gary Hand Endura Racing 2:39:19
2 Robin Wilkins Stirling BC Same time
3 Craig Adams Falkirk BC At 5sec
4 Andy Matheson Mussleburgh CC Same time
5 Phil Brown Velo Ecosse At 7sec
6 Gordon Murdoch Endura Racing At 13sec
7 Euan Pope Glasgow Couriers At 18sec
8 Eddie Addis Stirling BC At 2:32
9 Jason Roberts Glasgow Nightingale At 2:34
10 Stuart McManus Glasgow Wheelers Same time

Race B

2 Graeme Cockburn Glasgow Nightingale Same time
3 Michael Martin East Kilbride RC Same time
4 Stuart Moran Perth United CC Same time
5 Andrew Brierley Team Leslie Bike Shop Same time
6 James Whitworth Edinburgh RC Same time
7 Andrew Ralston Perth United CC Same time
8 Brian Duncan Deeside Thistle CC Same time
9 Neil Crawford Dundee Thistle CC Same time

Finally, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the marshals, car drivers, judges and providers of cakes, pieces and refreshmensts who came not just from Deeside but also GCRT, Ythan and Aberdeen Wheelers and who all pitched in and made the event run smoothly. The fact that we managed to run two good quality races in one in day was down to the quality of support from everyone involved.

As always Ali's got some great pics of the races up on the GCRT website. Thanks Emma! Smile

There were a lot of other people out taking pics of the B Race - any chance we could get links posted up on the forum? I'd like to get some pics of me on the front of the bunch, rather than the usuals ones of me off the back!!

Cheers,
Ali M Very Happy
